I am writing on behalf of CAB Ceredigion Citizens Advice and the 1,000s of people we help every year.
Our one-to-one advice services and our work with other local organisations across Ceredigion Penfro give us a unique understanding of the problems and priorities of people in a large part of the constituency you are seeking to represent.
With the Senedd election fast approaching and the important consequences the outcome has for us all, I hope you will take a few minutes to read about what we do and how we can work with you for the benefit of local people here.
Why advice matters - to local people
CAB Ceredigion Citizens Advice provides free, confidential, independent and impartial advice throughout Ceredigion and North Pembrokeshire. Last year, we helped over 2,200 people and tackled over 10,000 problems via our local telephone and digital services, and our weekly in-person surgeries in Aberystwyth, Cardigan and Lampeter. Our income maximisation work boosted people’s income, and the local economy, by more than £1.5 million!
We enabled people to increase their incomes, reduce household costs, manage debts, warm homes, secure legal justice, navigate eligibility to vital services and access crisis support. We tackle poverty and injustice, build resilient communities and, through our network of community groups and referral partners, reach deep into local communities.

Why advice matters - to local politicians
Our anonymised, real time client data reflects the enormity of the challenges people face and reveals the underlying problems that only Government, and local politicians who understand and can advocate for their constituents, have the power to fix. For example:
Since the recent conflict in the Middle East with its direct impact on heating costs for off-gas grid households, we have:
- advised on 78% more energy enquiries than this time last year
- responded to a 460% increase in requests for Discretionary Assistance Fund assistance
- secured a Welsh Government policy change to afford LPG households the equivalent support as those on oil
